05Typical quality parameters
| Parameter | What is checked |
|---|---|
| Crude protein and fat | Per declaration |
| Pellet size | Diameter and length |
| Physical quality | Durability, floatability, fat leakage |
| Moisture | Maximum |
Limits and tolerances come from your contract and the applicable standard. We do not apply generic values where a contract specification exists.
06Visual inspection criteria
- Dust and fines
- Fat leakage and rancid odour
- Pellet uniformity
07Sampling methods
Bagged feed is sampled across the lot with a sampling spear or by drawing complete bags at random, then reduced to laboratory samples. Bulk feed is sampled from the loading stream. Where the buyer uses EU methods, sampling follows the approach of Regulation (EC) No 152/2009.
08Laboratory testing
- Proximate analysis
- Peroxide value and oxidation status
- Dioxins and PCBs
- Heavy metals
- Ethoxyquin where relevant
- Proximate analysis: moisture, crude protein, crude fat, crude fibre, ash
- Aflatoxin B1 and other mycotoxins
- Salmonella
Testing is coordinated through laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 for the required method. See laboratory coordination.
09Food safety and quality risks
- Oxidation of fish oil
- Dioxins and heavy metals from marine ingredients
- Fines from poor pellet quality
10Packaging and labelling
Bags of 25 kg and big bags.
11Storage and transportation
Cool, dry storage away from sunlight.
12Pre-shipment inspection procedure
- Review feed specification, declared nutrients and labelling requirements
- Confirm lot identity and production records
- Draw representative samples and seal them
- Examine pellet quality, fines, odour, colour, mould and insects
- Send samples for proximate analysis and undesirable substances
- Check bag condition, labels and net weight
- Supervise loading and container condition
- Issue an inspection report
13Relevant international standards
Regulations are amended regularly. Always check the version in force for your destination market.
