01Product overview

  • Refined, bleached and deodorised (RBD) sunflower oil, often winterised
  • Crude sunflower oil for further refining
  • Standard linoleic and high oleic types

02Turkish production regions

Crushing and refining in Tekirdağ, Edirne and Kırklareli (Thrace), plus Konya, Adana, İstanbul and İzmir.

03Harvest and production season

Domestic seed harvest in August and September; refining runs year round.

04Export characteristics

Large volumes of packed refined oil go to Iraq, the Middle East and Africa. Bulk oil moves by flexitank and vessel.

Limits and tolerances come from your contract and the applicable standard. We do not apply generic values where a contract specification exists.

06Visual inspection criteria

  • Clarity and colour
  • Bottle and closure integrity, fill level
  • Carton condition and labelling

07Sampling methods

Bulk oil is sampled from tanks, flexitanks or ISO tanks at defined levels or as a running sample during loading, in line with FOSFA rules or the contract. Packed oil is sampled by carton using ISO 2859-1. Samples are taken in clean, sealed, light-protected containers.

08Laboratory testing

  • FFA, peroxide value, colour, moisture
  • Fatty acid composition
  • 3-MCPD and glycidyl fatty acid esters
  • Mineral oil hydrocarbons
  • PAH where specified
  • Free fatty acids and peroxide value
  • Contaminants such as 3-MCPD, glycidyl esters and mineral oil hydrocarbons

Testing is coordinated through laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 for the required method. See laboratory coordination.

09Food safety and quality risks

  • Refining process contaminants
  • Blending with cheaper oils
  • Packaging defects and leaks

10Packaging and labelling

PET bottles of 1 to 5 litres, tins, and flexitanks.

11Storage and transportation

Cool, dark storage; we check tanks, filling lines and finished goods warehouses.

12Pre-shipment inspection procedure

  1. Agree grade, analytical parameters and sampling method
  2. Inspect storage tanks, flexitanks or ISO tanks for cleanliness and previous cargo
  3. Draw and seal samples from tanks or the loading line
  4. Check packed goods for leaks, fill level and labelling
  5. Send samples for grade and contaminant analysis
  6. Supervise filling, sealing and loading
  7. Issue inspection report with seal numbers and laboratory results

13Relevant international standards

Regulations are amended regularly. Always check the version in force for your destination market.
